Updating ECU software after remap
1) I heard updating eliminates some issues, but I have not got a clue which ones
2) More importantly if I get the ECU updated will it wipe my remap?

Updating the ECU software will wipe the remap software. Where did you get the remap done? Do they not offer a service where they can reload the map on the car for you? You may have to pay for it but it shouldn't be the full price of the remap again.

you can get updates done from Independent BMW specialists as well, not just DME but EGS and others as well.

Possibly not worth the hassle, you mayget slightly better MPG, maybe better throttle response etc, if and auto and you have the EGS done you may get better shift points, etc. Unless you have an issue which can be identified and fixed by a software update I wouldn't bother. Most places would charge an hour labour for updates.
