MY MOTIV BMW

For BMW owners and enthusiasts

Hi Everyone, I know that it has been cold for a long time but i have noticed that my E46 325 seems very heavy with the exhast fumes. The fumes are white and not of a dark colour and I have not been burning any engine oil.

I have also been watching other BMW's and noticed that they tend to let off alot of clear smoke as well. Does anybody have a theory??? or is something wrong??

Mine does it, and i believe my sisters does too? Its funny i was talking to a mechanic i know and he said his WRX is very prone to it especially in the winter months.

It probably is the catalytic converters being heated up. My 7 series does it, our 1 series does it, my E34 and first 7 series all did it. With autos during the warm up phase the car is kept in a lower gear to get the cat's warm quicker. Manuals maybe have another system for warming them quicker that results in a bit more exhaust fumes when cold

hi mate , i seem to have that problem too, first thing in the morning its very white , almost like steam ! LOL, it does settle down after a few miles when the engine warms up. i also watch other bmw exhausts too, ....... sounds daft eh! i have some yellow goo & condensation under my oil filler cap, (see my photo) , the fumes have only been like that for a few weeks now since the yellow goo & condensation arrived.

Its nothing to worry about. It seems that most BMWs tend to do that. As long as the car isn't losing any water and everything is as normal its fine. I don't know why they do it, maybe its extra hot gasses or maybe there is more condensation build up?

I don't suppose anyone has an auxiliary fan motor for a 2000 E38 do they. Needs to be the last type with the three pin connector and no resistor packs.
