FBMWSH !!!!!

FBMWSH my a$$, I recently thought I would look for the position of my fuel filter whilst I had it up in the air at my mates garage, found it under the left hand plastic floor trim near the front. Being nosey I removed the bolts and screws holing it to find the part #, this is why I have put fbmwsh in my blog title, the date on it was 2 months before the car was built !!! its nearly 10 years old !!. So ordered a new one which I fitted the next day, very easy just pull back the 3 quick release fittings and unscrew the fuel pressure regulator not forgetting to renew the copper washer, replace with new filter and check for any leaks. I then put the filter in the vice and cut both ends off pulling out the filter paper, It was totally black rather than a clean yellowish paper you see from air filters. Sometimes you just can't beat doing service work your self. Pulls much better now, a month ago I also fitted a new set of ngk plugs at a very good price of £28.89 "mates rates" :)

Its actually not listed in the service guide that the fuel filter is ever replaced by BMW! I was told this a couple of years ago when I visited my local dealer to enquire where the fuel filter was housed. Its a bit silly.... and has to rank right up there with "sealed for life" gearboxes and diffs etc.

My advice would be to replace it every major service, you can't go wrong that way.
